Freeform Design Technique

Workshop
Imagine weaving two-dimensional freeform designs, like damask or brocade, using a standard 4-Harness loom, and no pick-up stick! Freeform twill involves a simple 1-2-3-4 threading and a unique treadling system, which facilitates the development of weaver-created two-dimensional design patterns.

Students learn the fundamentals of freeform twill, design theory, the making and use of a cartoon, and several variations of the freeform twill technique, which are ideal for light-weight fabrics to heavy rugs.

This workshop is ideally a 3-day length, to afford maximum time for experimentation. However, it works very well as a 2-day workshop, and is most often taught in this format.
